Fashion Photography

Fashion Photography is the area of photography that concentrates on taking pictures of clothing or accessories (on models or alone) to be published in fashion magazines, advertisements or circulated among designers. Famous fashion magazines include Vogue, Elle and InStyle.

Adolph de Meyer (1 September 1868 - 6 January 1949) Adolph de Meyer is considerd the first fashiom photographer, In 1893 he joined the Royal Photographic Society and moved to London in 1895.
here are some examples of his work over the years

To what degree should the image be manipulated to go into a fashion magazine?

I believe that it is okay for models and celebrity's to have things such as blemishes, spots and  wrinkles photo shopped away, however I do not believe they should be made to look thinner and body parts should not be changed as their image could be seen by certain people who want to look like that when it's not really possible, this in the past has lead many people especially females to have eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia.

Week 3 Portraiture: Application, Context Technique

Diane Arbus (March 14, 1923 – July 26, 1971) Diane Arbus was an American photographer who was known for taking what were considerd unusual and strange to most people, she wanted to capture the people in her images as they were in real life rather than make the viewer percive them as something that they're not. A good example of this is the famous portrait of Henry VIII (below) being compared with Diane's photo of two young boys smoking, the thing about the portrait of Henry VII is no onw knows who took the photo but that isn't what matters what matters is that he is made to look powerful (bigg shoulders and clothes), rich (money bag) and dangerous (dagger in his hand), this is ery diffrent to the picture of the boys because the boys don't look botherd and seem very relaxed.but also very curious as to why they are being photographed.

Portraiture:

Portraiture is the art of painting or photographing of someone's expressions (especially of the facial area), this helps people viewing them get an idea of what is going on and what the subject feels and what they're like. Portraits are popular for things such as family  photos and individual photos as they often look more professorial and give more importance to the subject rather than anything else.
